Accidents and injuries

Accident and injuries can happen to any one at anytime but you can take simple steps to reduce the risks.

Road Safety

Too many young drivers and passangers are involved in road traffic accidents each year.

The Pass Plus Cymru scheme is aimed at young drivers between the ages of 17 and 25, who have recently passed their test, and to give them extra driving skills and experience to help reduce the risk of being involved in road traffic collisions.

The scheme involves a three-hour theory session, followed by an eight-hour on-the-road session with an approved instructor is currently available in the Gwynedd area. As well as reducing the risk of a young driver being involved in a crash, taking part in the Pass Plus Cymru scheme will also allow participants to save money on car insurance.

For more information regarding the Pass Plus scheme in Gwynedd, contact Heather Lynne Jones, Gwynedd Council's Road Safety Officer on 01286 679891.

It's not just on the roads that you need to be careful, you need to look after your personal safety in many ways.

Web Safety

Always

internet safety
  • Keep your password safe and don't tell anyone else.
  • Be careful in chat rooms. Just because it says that it's only for young people, there's no way to tell if only young people are using it. It might be someone trying to trick you.
  • Use a nickname instead of your real name in chatrooms, or when chatting with anyone on the Internet in any other way.
  • If someone says something that makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, then leave the chat room. Make sure you tell someone, either your Mum or Dad, or a carer.
  • If you are chatting to people on the internet, then don't tell anyone you talk to any of your personal details, especially your address, telephone number or school etc.
  • Don't ever send anyone your picture, any of your bank details, or credit card details without first checking with a responsible adult.
