The MEND Programme and how to refer

What is the MEND Programme?

MEND - Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do It!

The MEND Programme is a fun course for families with children aged 7 to 13 whose weight is above the healthy range for their age and height. It runs twice a week after school in two-hour sessions over 10 weeks.

The Programme helps children and families manage their weight better and lead healthier lives. It was developed by child health experts and research shows it really works. With the support of their parents or carers, children learn how to improve their health, fitness and the way they feel about their bodies.

When a family joins a MEND Programme, we will teach them about nutrition and how to eat a balanced diet. We’ll also help them learn how to be more active, and show them some clever mind tricks to help them keep up their motivation. We will help them make changes gradually so they can stick to their new healthy lifestyle and show them skills to change their attitudes towards food and exercise so they can feel fitter, healthier and happier - for good.

There are programmes starting in:

Plas Arthur, Llangefni Tuesdays and Thursdays 5pm – 7pm from Tuesday 22nd September and Arfon Leisure Centre Caernarfon Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm – 7pm from Monday 21st September

Children with unhealthy weights between the ages of 7 and 13 are extremely welcome. It should be noted that the Programme is not suitable for children with any serious medical, developmental, psychiatric or physical condition.
