Eating a healthy balanced diet is important whatever your age!

Food is fab and food is fun, but eating too much of one thing, or not enough of another, could be bad for your health.

So that you can learn more about food our friends the fruit and vegetables will help you out.

Why is what we eat important?

What you eat and how much you eat is very important, but how so you know which foods you should eat?

The Eatwell Plate Model shows you what types of food you should eat more of and which food you should eat less of so you can have a balanced diet.

Fruit and vegetables
You should eat plenty of fruit and vegetables at least 5 portions a day. It doesn’t mater if they are fresh, frozen or come out of a tin. Fruit and veg are good sources of many vitamins and minerals which help keep your body, teeth and skin healthy.
Starchy foods
These are things like bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and wholegrain cereals, and its very important that you eat plenty of them to keep you healthy. They give you lots of energy to keep you going all day!
Milk and dairy products
Milk and other dairy products like cheese contain a lot of protein and calcium which help keep your bones healthy and make you stronger!
Meat and fish
Meat is a good source of protein and vitamins and minerals, such as iron. Cut off any fat from meat so that you don’t eat to much bad fat. We should be eating at least two portions of fish a week including one of oily fish – this will make your bones stronger and keep you healthy.
Food and drink high in fat and/or sugar
Remember you should only have just a small amount of foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar.
